Top Tips for Employers: Ensure Your Job Offer is Accepted

For many job hunters, the interview process can be one of the most nerve-wracking parts of employment, but it’s not just those looking to be hired who are under pressure. The business of interviewing and making offers is stressful for employers, too – who are usually just as anxious about netting their first-choice candidate as the candidate is about being hired.

With skills shortages remaining a high concern in the current job market, the most eligible candidates are more likely than ever to have several offers on the table.

Here’s how to ensure they accept yours…

1. Pitch the Salary Right

When a candidate has several job offers to choose from, salary is obviously going to be a huge deciding factor in where they eventually end up working. While you may think you’re offering a fair wage, it might be a good idea to go above and beyond the norm if you want to secure a candidate with skills that are scarce.

It may cost more in the short-term, but the long-term benefits of hiring the best are undeniable.

2. Demonstrate Job Security

In today’s uncertain economic climate, job security is becoming even more of a priority than salary for potential employees. Show your first-choice candidate that the role offers job security and research shows they will be three times more likely to accept.

3. Create an Inviting Company Culture

In the age of healthy living and empowerment, the best employees are looking to join companies that give them both a healthy work/life balance and a sense of shared morals and ethics.

Nurturing a company culture that promotes diversity and career development as well as encouraging balance via remote or flexible working will make your job offer much more attractive to those top tier employees. If you’re able to build a brand that people genuinely want to be part of, you won’t have to work as hard at attracting them in the first place.

4. Use the Interview to Impress

In the same way an employer wants to know a candidate will be a good fit for the company, the interviewee also wants to know that they’ll enjoy working with the people who are already there.

With this in mind, remember that an interview is just as much a chance to impress your candidate as it is for them to impress you. A pleasant, organised, interesting, and professional interview process will demonstrate your culture to your potential employee, as well as making your company their most desirable option. If necessary, train your interviewers to make sure they’re representing you as best they can.

5. Time is of the Essence

What you do after an interview is just as important as what you do during. Employees love to feel wanted and a quick response and offer after an interview is much more likely to get them to accept than if you keep them waiting. Not to mention the fact that they might get snapped up by someone else if you leave it too long.

Experts recommend you wait no longer than 24 hours to make an offer if you want your offer to be accepted.

So those are our top 5 tips to help employers improve their chances of bagging their first-choice candidate, but we’d love to hear yours. Please share your pearls of wisdom in the comments section or head over to our Facebook page.
